Art Deco Platinum, Aquamarine Ring with Diamond Set Shoulders

528N
Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

An impressive platinum ring set with quite a large aquamarine. The aquamarine is a beautiful pale sea blue colour with no green tinge which you sometimes get with aquamarines. The seawater colour of aquamarine has given this gemstone its name as the name “aquamarine” is derived from the Latin word for seawater. Aquamarine is the birthstone for the month of March. The other lovely thing about this stone is that it has been multi faceted on the reverse with the intention of not being able to see straight through the stone to the skin of the finger beneath. On either side of the stone are pierced leaf design shoulders set with small diamonds. It was made in the 1920s and is typical of that period when aquamarines were very popular. It would make a wonderful engagement or dress ring.
