Art Deco 18ct White Gold & Platinum, Cabochon Opal and Diamond Ring

273S
Written by Olly Gerrish

This 18ct white gold Art Deco ring with a platinum top was made in the 1920s, and is all about the stone. The cushion shaped cabochon measuring 3.68 carats is an impressive size with a lovely play of colour, the green and blue flashes dancing discreetly beyond the dominant reds. Likely to be Australian in origin, as opal had only recently found its way onto the commercial market in the early 20th century, the gem stands proud above diamond set stepped shoulders. A statement piece, and one that beautifully represents the style of the age. On either side are step cut shoulders each set with three diamonds.
