9ct Gold Clasped Hands Fede Ring

522S
Written by Olly Gerrish

This style of ring goes back to Roman times if not before. It is known as a “fede” ring which is a design of ring in which two hands meet and are clasped in friendship, love or betrothal. It became prominent in the medieval period from the 12th century onwards and in more modern times. The name fede is from the Italian phrase “mani in fede” or “hands clasped in faith”. The hands pull apart to reveal a heart. It is a wonderful expression of love hidden behind the clasped hands and would make a perfect and unusual wedding band. This ring is hard to date but I think it is a later version made circa 1950. It cannot be sized.
