19th Century Rose Diamond Cluster Earrings

572S
Written by Olly Gerrish

An unusual pair of rose diamond earrings, made circa 1880-1900 possibly in Holland. They have a diameter of 1.5cm so they are a good size. Each earring has been set with a central larger rose diamond with two bands of smaller rose diamonds around it. They have post and scroll fittings. Rose diamonds have a special look as they are cut to a point in the centre with facets that reflect the light in a completely different way to conventionally cut diamonds. The result is a hard greyish glint that looks fantastic, especially when worn in a candle lit setting, which is what was originally intended when these earrings were made.
