1970s 18ct Gold & Green Enamel Snake Ring

440S
Written by Olly Gerrish

The snake motif has been used in jewellery for centuries. Snake jewellery was very popular and was traditionally given as a gift of love in the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian periods as it represented “Eternal love and wisdom”, but the motif goes back to the Roman and Greek periods. This sinuous snake ring is a much later version and was made in 1972. It has been beautifully made and has been enamelled in emerald green enamel with diamond shaped eyes. We also have a blue enamelled snake by the same maker.
