15ct Gold Swiss Enamel Drop Earrings

704H
Written by Olly Gerrish

A very pretty pair of gold drop earrings with rope twist borders and bow tops. They have been enamelled with scenes of the Jung Frau and St Moritz. In Geneva, Switzerland, there was a culture of painting enamels from the late 15th century but the industry only really started to flourish in the mid 17th century. They specialised in the different Swiss Canton’s costume portraits and Swiss scenery which soon attracted the attention of customers from all over Europe and beyond. Their products remained fashionable well into the 19th century. These earrings were made circa 1820-1840 and are in beautiful condition.
